LawyerService.com ("we", "us", "our") is a technology platform that provides case management and document storage services for lawyers and clients in India. We act as a Data Fiduciary under the DPDP Act, 2023 with respect to the personal data we collect and process.

2. What Data We Collect

For Lawyers

• Full name, email address, mobile number
• Bar Council enrollment number and state
• Practice area and years of experience
• City and court(s) of practice
• Payment and billing information (processed via secure third-party payment gateways — we do not store card details)

For Clients

• Full name, email address, mobile number
• Case-related documents you upload (court orders, petitions, identity documents, etc.)
• Case details you enter on the platform
• City and type of legal matter

Automatically Collected

• Device type, browser, and operating system
• IP address and approximate location
• Pages visited and features used (for improving the platform)
• Login timestamps and session data

3. Why We Collect This Data

• To provide the LawyerService.com platform and its features
• To send court date reminders and case alerts via SMS and email
• To verify lawyer credentials with Bar Council records
• To process subscription payments
• To provide customer support
• To improve our platform based on usage patterns
• To comply with legal obligations under Indian law

4. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. Ever. We may share limited data with:

• Payment processors (Razorpay or similar) to process subscription payments
• SMS/email service providers to send you alerts and notifications
• Cloud infrastructure providers (AWS) for secure data storage
• Law enforcement or courts if required by a valid legal order under Indian law

All third-party service providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the specific purpose for which it was shared.

• Active case data is retained as long as you have an active account
• If a case becomes inactive (no assigned lawyer), data is retained for 6 months free, after which an archive fee of ₹99–199/month applies
• If archive fees are unpaid, you will receive deletion warnings at 30, 60, 90, and 180 days. After 6 months of non-payment, data is permanently deleted with a final 30-day advance notice
• You can request immediate deletion of your account and all associated data at any time

As a Data Principal under the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the right to:

• Access a summary of your personal data that we hold
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Erase your personal data (we will process requests within 7 days)
• Nominate another person to exercise your rights on your behalf
• Withdraw consent for processing at any time
• File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India

8. Data Security

• All data is encrypted in transit using 256-bit SSL/TLS
• All data is encrypted at rest on our servers
• We perform regular security audits and penetration testing
• Access to user data is restricted on a need-to-know basis within our team
• In the event of a data breach, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India within 72 hours and notify affected users promptly

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We use analytics cookies (with your consent) to understand how people use our platform so we can improve it. You can manage cookie preferences in your account settings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email and display a notice on the platform. Continued use of the platform after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. About LawyerService.com

LawyerService.com is a technology platform that provides case management, document storage, and communication tools for lawyers and clients in India. We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal services of any kind. Nothing on this platform constitutes legal advice.

2. Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years old to use this platform
• Lawyers must be enrolled with a recognised State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961
• By using the platform, you confirm that all information you provide is accurate and truthful

3. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately at support@lawyerservice.com if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account. We will not be liable for any loss resulting from unauthorised use of your account.

4. Lawyer Subscriptions

• Lawyer subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as selected at signup
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date
• Refunds are available within 7 days of the initial subscription purchase
• No refunds are issued for partial months after the 7-day window
• We reserve the right to modify subscription pricing with 30 days advance notice

5. Client Accounts

Client accounts are free. Clients may upload documents, create cases, and invite lawyers at no cost. An archive fee applies to inactive cases without an assigned lawyer after the free retention period — see our Privacy Policy for details.

6. Data Ownership

All case data, documents, and content uploaded by clients belongs to the client. Lawyers are granted access to this data by the client for the purpose of managing the case. LawyerService.com does not claim ownership over any user-generated content. We act solely as a data processor on behalf of users.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the platform for any unlawful purpose
• Upload content that is false, misleading, defamatory, or violates any third party's rights
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the platform
• Use the platform to facilitate the sharing of confidential third-party information without proper authorisation
• Impersonate any person, including impersonating a lawyer without a valid Bar Council enrollment
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or create derivative works from any part of the platform

8. Bar Council Compliance

LawyerService.com is designed to be fully compliant with the Bar Council of India rules. The platform does not facilitate fee-sharing, referral commissions, or any form of payment to non-lawyers for legal work. Lawyers are solely responsible for ensuring their use of the platform complies with all applicable Bar Council regulations.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The platform is provided "as is" without any warranties, express or implied. While we make every effort to ensure the platform is reliable and available, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not responsible for any consequences arising from technical failures, data loss due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, or actions taken based on platform notifications.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, LawyerService.com's total liability for any claim arising from use of the platform shall not exceed the subscription fees paid by you in the 3 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your data will be retained for 30 days during which you can request an export, after which it will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

DPDP Act Compliance

What is the DPDP Act?

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is India's comprehensive data privacy law. It governs how organisations collect, store, process, and share the personal data of Indian residents. The DPDP Rules, 2025 were notified in November 2025 and full compliance is required by May 2027. LawyerService.com is building DPDP compliance into the platform from day one — not as a retrofit.

Our Role Under the DPDP Act

LawyerService.com acts as a Data Fiduciary — we determine the purpose and means of processing user personal data. Users (lawyers and clients) are Data Principals — the individuals whose data is processed. We take our obligations as a Data Fiduciary seriously.

Consent

We collect and process personal data only with your explicit, free, specific, and informed consent. When you sign up, we clearly explain:

• What data we are collecting
• Why we are collecting it
• How it will be used
• Who it may be shared with

You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us at privacy@lawyerservice.com.

Purpose Limitation

We only collect data that is necessary for the specific purpose stated at the time of collection. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating and improving the LawyerService.com platform.

Data Minimisation

We collect only the minimum data required to provide our services. We do not ask for Aadhaar numbers, PAN cards, or other sensitive identification unless specifically required for a feature you choose to use.

Your Rights as a Data Principal

• Right to access — request a summary of personal data we hold about you
• Right to correction — correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
• Right to erasure — request deletion of your data. We will process erasure requests within 7 days
• Right to data portability — download all your case data as a ZIP file at any time via the one-click export button
• Right to nominate — nominate another person to exercise your data rights on your behalf
• Right to grieve — raise a complaint with our Data Protection Officer or with the Data Protection Board of India

Data Security Safeguards

• All data encrypted in transit (256-bit SSL/TLS) and at rest
• Regular security audits and penetration testing
• Strict access controls — only authorised personnel can access user data
• Breach notification to the Data Protection Board of India within 72 hours of discovery
• Immediate notification to affected users in the event of a breach

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the stated purpose or as required by law. See our Privacy Policy for detailed retention timelines. You can request immediate deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.

No Cross-Border Data Transfer

All user data is stored on servers located in India (AWS Mumbai region). We do not transfer your personal data outside India. This ensures full compliance with any future data localisation requirements under the DPDP Act.

Children's Data

LawyerService.com is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately at privacy@lawyerservice.com.

Data Protection Board of India
